Firearms Frequently Asked Questions
Q-How do I buy a gun?
A-The laws on buying
firearms are divided into two areas:
Handguns - To
purchase a handgun you need a current NC driver's license and proof of a
background check. This can be either a Pistol Permit issued by the
Sheriff of the county you live in or a North Carolina Concealed Handgun
Carry Permit.
Rifles & Shotguns -
To purchase a long
gun (rifle or shotgun) you need a current driver's license and a
background check. This can be either a North Carolina Concealed Handgun
Carry Permit or by having us call in a NICS background check through the
FBI. This NICS check is usually instant, but on rare occasions can take
longer.
Q-
Can I buy a high capacity magazine?
A- High
Capacity Magazines Are Not For Sale To California, Hawaii, New York, New
Jersey, Massachusetts, Maryland or Washington DC. Sorry. We don’t make
the laws, your state legislature does. If you don’t like these rules we
recommend that you send a letter to every congressman in your state.
Then do it again the next day.
Q-
Is there any restrictions on purchasing ammunition?
A- ALL
Ammunition Orders Require Drivers License, Concealed Carry Permit , or
some other State Issued Identification for age verification before
ammunition can be shipped. You can cover up the number on your license
if you like, but ammunition orders will NOT ship until we receive age
verification. Once we have proper identification on file, you may order
at any time without delay in shipment. Identification can be emailed to
shan@Vanguardnc.com .
Q-
Is it legal to buy guns over the internet?
A- Yes. All modern firearms must by law be transferred from a
Federally Licensed dealer to the buyer via another FFL holder. That is
why shops that sell guns only ship firearms to a FFL holder for
subsequent transfer to their customers.
If you do not
have an FFL you can still order online. First, contact us or another
official FFL holder and get our permission to have a gun shipped from
the shop you are buying from. Usually you are the billing contact and we
are the shipping address. Next, we will send a signed in ink copy of our
FFL to the shop from which you plan to buy. Then the gun dealer will
ship the firearm to us and you can buy the gun from us meeting all
local, state, and federal laws.
Q-
Will Vanguard Firearms Division do a transfer for me?
A- Yes, if you wish to order a gun from somewhere else and have it
sent to us so you can pick it up here, the fee is $35.00, payable in
advance. If we receive a gun to transfer to you, and you are a
prohibited from owning it, you will be responsible for shipping back to
the place you bought it.
Q-
Why is the signed FFL copy required to be sent to the seller before an
Internet or mail order purchase can be shipped?
A- Possession of the FFL copy bearing an original ink signature is
required legally to ensure that the destination of the firearm is the
same as the shipping address on the license. This prevents fraud and the
unlawful delivery of firearms to underage or prohibited persons. All
FFLs must be current and we check each against the BATF’s on-line
database of current and valid FFLs.
